H2020-SPACE VERTIGO aimed to develop and demonstrate concepts using state-of-the-art optical technologies, enabling a substantial increase in feeder link capacities of up to 100 Gbit/s. Our research and development of innovative error-correction methods facilitate significant progress in Free-Space Optical (FSO) communication technology. We successfully integrated advanced Forward Error Correction (FEC) mechanisms into FSO channels, thereby greatly improving the reliability of data transmission. Through the strategic rearrangement of data sequences and the implementation of powerful error detection codes, this breakthrough promises to counteract atmospheric disturbances and enhance the robustness of the system. The VERTIGO project marks a decisive step towards unlocking the full potential of FSO communication and opens up new possibilities for fast, secure, and resilient wireless data transmission in various real-world applications.
